Electronic Locks

Some identity validation is necessary with electronic locks before they will open. By using this process of validation, the electronic locks guarantee that only those with credentials into the locked room or area are allowed in.

There are three kinds of authentication methods. When all three methods are combined together, they ensure the best security possible.

Numerical Entry Code
The most common type of authentication is using a numerical code, or password. In order to deactivate the lock, simply enter the code by selecting the correct numbers from the keypad.

Security Token
For a higher level of security, one may seek a method which involves using a security token. Only the person holding the coded token can open the lock. The security token can appear in different forms such as a magnetic card, a coded key or even a special remote control.

Biometric Identification
Biometric identification is the only true way to ensure positive I.D. as it makes use of characteristics which are unique to each individual. Some new electronic locks will deactivate only when recognizing an authorized person. This high-tech method, once only seen in futuristic movies, recognizes an authorized person by scanning their fingerprint or by reading their eye retina. Voiceprint identification can also be used by many biometric locks to authenticate users.
